Wedding Overwhelm

Weddings! The thought of weddings and planning your wedding is, according to all the movies, supposed to fill you with joy and magical unicorns. The reality is, much like Miss T in the photograph, for some people, the thought of planning their wedding fills them with a sense of overwhelm and they literally don’t know where to start and so hiding in a fort under the table in the safety of your chair legs for a double fort whammy seems like a great place to be!

Wedding FAQs

Groom getting ready

Having been in the wedding industry for well over a decade (and it’s been about 25 years since I waitressed at my first wedding) there are certain questions that I get asked regularly. There are no set answers to any of them. My answer is almost always ‘this is YOUR wedding, you get to make the decision that is right for you.’

I do, however, realise that I have participated in many many weddings over the years (I have been a marriage celebrant for 13ish years, a wedding photographer for a couple of years (since the AG department changed the rules and I was allowed to photograph weddings I wasn’t officiating), and have also done my fair share of catering weddings – starting as a waitress at 13, plus my experience planning my own wedding and planning a relative’s wedding and helping out with planning friends special days) so chances are I have more experience in the area of weddings than the couple getting married so I generally have some hints and tips to share.

Upcoming topics in the series

I thought that I would release a Wedding FAQ series. I intend topics to cover:

  • 5 tips for your wedding day
  • What time should I get married?
  • What should my timeline look like?
  • How many hours of photography coverage should I have?
  • How do I choose a celebrant?
  • How do I choose a photographer?
  • Why do I need a photography mood board?
  • Why have engagement photos?
  • I hate myself in photos, can you magically make me not hate how I look in photos?
  • How do I write my own wedding vows?
  • How do we pick a date?
  • Where should I get married?
  • How long do I need to plan a wedding?
  • What should I book first.
  • What’s the most important points for planning a wedding.
  • Should I do a first look?
  • What are the legal requirements to get married?

Most of these points (plus a whole heap more) are covered in my book ‘Oh My Gosh, I’m getting Married. Now what?’ but the idea of reading a whole book can be a little daunting so I thought some bite size blog posts might help.

I hope these posts can help with some of the questions you might have about planning your wedding!

As I write to posts I will aim to come back into this one and link the posts to the dot points above. If you have any burning questions about weddings then please get in touch and I’ll see if I can help.

Obviously I LOVE weddings so if you are looking for a wedding photographer then please check out my wedding gallery and if you like what you see get in touch and I’d love to chat to you about whether I’m a good fit for your special day.
