River and Sharmony’s Wedding Photography
I had the privilege of photographing River and Sharmony’s wedding at the Naked Apple Cider House in Karragullen, Perth, WA with Kelly from 7 to 1 Photography.
I had met River and Sharmony during a family photoshoot earlier in the year that River’s mum Margaret had organised for a surprise for her husband Corey’s birthday so it was lovely to be invited back by the family to share such a special time in a couple’s life.
River and Sharmony planned their entire wedding with very little lead time. Why wait when you know you know right? Where some couples have two or more years to plan their wedding, River and Sharmony organised it all (with a lot of help from Margaret) in less than two months. It just goes to show that you don’t need to spend lots of time planning a wedding. When it is meant to be, everything falls into place and wow did it fall into place!
Getting ready
Sharmony got ready at her mum’s house, surrounded by family, friends and her Maid of Honour Anna. It was beautiful to see so many people who love Sharmony there for her on this special day. When I arrived the beautification process had already started and Alison from Hair by Alison and Denise from The Full Monty Beauty Salon was well underway with the make-up. There were jokes that River wouldn’t recognise her, there was lots of laughter and more than a couple of tears from Sharmony’s mum and grandparents when they saw Sharmony with make up complete and hair perfectly pinned and adorned with a fingertip length veil under her curls and a hair pin with fresh flowers to match her bouquet crafted by Jess from Lotte and Aud.
This was a wedding where everyone pitched in to make it perfect! A family friend drove Sharmony, Anna and Sharmony’s Granddad to the Naked Apple Cider house in his beautifully restored post vintage car.
While I was capturing Sharmony getting ready, Kelly was up with River at his parents house and there was lots of laughter to go around. River was also surrounded by loved ones, family and friends. Once the suits (from Ferrari’s Formalwear) were on and the ties were tied and the flowers (also by Lotte and Aud) were pinned, River and his friends broke out the cards for a quick game of Yugioh. Nothing settles the nerves like crafting spells and summoning creatures, right?
After a few quick games it was time for River and his family and friends to make their way to the Naked Apple Cider House.
Wedding ceremony photos
The wedding itself was beautiful. A lovely ceremony performed by Jodie De Graaf of West Coast Civil Ceremonies. River’s youngest brother Eamon was the ring bearer and before they knew it River and Sharmony were Mr and Mrs!
Family photos
When it was time for the family photos, River’s dad, Corey told me they all knew what they were doing because they remembered it from the family photoshoot. I absolutely loved hearing that! It is one of the reasons that I love doing engagement shoots because the bride and groom are much more comfortable in front of the camera and when I say ‘open up’, ‘close up’ ‘stack’ etc they know exactly what I mean and they can move and adjust easily and quickly. After hearing Corey’s comments I might have to start suggesting that family photos before a wedding are a good idea so that everyone knows the cues 😊.
Bridal portraits
River and Sharmony had an hour for couples portraits and we sure made the most of the time and the amazing grounds at Naked Apple. There were so many gorgeous spots to stop for photos. I was like a kid in a sweet shop, I had been out a week before to scout photography spots and was very excited to see the options available but there is something about having a bride and groom there that increased the excitement. I lost count of how many times I said ‘oh oh oh, look at that spot, lets try this’ and River and Sharmony were brilliant and went along with all that was suggested.
All the details
It was an absolutely fantastic day and all the details were just perfect, including the wedding cake that Margaret decorated herself!
It was a privilege to be invited to capture these moments for River and Sharmony and their families!
